Any recommendations for a free photo editor? Photoshop, Lightroom, GIMP? I've used Picasa and Paint.NET which are useful but there are better alternatives...
Need to be able to process jpg, RAW and possibly TIFF formats.

Hmm...I've been using GIMP + Picasa....but am thinking to try Lightroom. I've been told it's quite good..and it specifically caters for the photography workflow - and caters for RAW + JPEG.

Did a little more reading - Adobe Photoshop (PS) seems to be the benchmark, Adobe Lightroom (LR) is the compliment of Photoshop for workflow, GIMP is almost the free Photoshop but not as polished to use. GIMP needs a plug-in to support Canon RAW files (and Nikon) which limits functionality though not entirely sure how.

t see myself spending $2,000+ on Adobe PS+LR...
